It is working on macOS with Apple Mail. No idea, if it works under Microsoft Windows with Mozilla Thunderbird.

I reproduced it on Debian sid/unstable with GNOME 41.0 and Mozilla Thunderbird 91.3.0, and reported the issue to the developers.

currently at least expanded image can be transferred.
