[pinentry is a small collection of dialog programs that allow GnuPG to read passphrases and PIN numbers in a secure manner.][1] Without it, using gpg is more painful than it needs to be because you'll have to use the `--pinentry-mode loopback` flag almost everywhere which is not convenient.
