From a412896beb14b5826f0e524f7d445a190a87e284 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Paul Menzel Date: Wed, 14 Oct 2026 18:21:04 +0200 Subject: [PATCH 1/2] util-linux: Update version from 2.37.3 to 2.42.4 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit unshare(1) supports `--map-auto` since util-linux 2.38. From the [util-linux 2.38 Release Notes][1]: > unshare(8) supports new options --map-users= and --map-groups= to map block of > group IDs; and new option --map-auto to map the first block of user IDs owned > by the effective user from /etc/subuid With the new package: $ unshare --map-auto --map-root-user sh -c 'cat /proc/self/uid_map' 0 16716 1 1 1200000 65536 The five shared libraries keep their SONAMEs, and every versioned symbol of the 2.37.3 libraries is still exported. The package now also contains liblastlog2, lastlog2(8) and pam_lastlog2.so (SQLite is found), the systemd units moved from /lib/systemd/system to /usr/lib/systemd/system (/lib is a symbolic link to /usr/lib), and there are the new commands bits, blkpr, copyfilerange, coresched, enosys, exch, fadvise, getino, lsclocks, lsfd, pipesz, setpgid and waitpid. None of them is owned by another installed package. Unlike 2.37.3, the package contains tmpfiles.d(5) files, for example /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/lastlog2-tmpfiles.conf. So bee’s post-install hook /usr/libexec/bee/hooks.d/systemd-tmpfiles now runs `systemd-tmpfiles --create`, which applies all configuration files, not only the package’s. On hosts with an automounted /home, the line `Q /home 0755 - - -` in systemd’s /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/home.conf then causes a notice: $ sudo bee update util-linux-2.42.4-0 installing /src/mariux/beeroot/packages/util-linux-2.42.4-0.x86_64.bee.tar.bz2 .. /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/uuidd-tmpfiles.conf:5: Failed to resolve user 'uuidd': Unknown user /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/uuidd-tmpfiles.conf:6: Failed to resolve user 'uuidd': Unknown user Detected autofs mount point '/home' during canonicalization of 'home'. Skipping /home removing util-linux-2.37.3-0.x86_64 .. systemd-tmpfiles does not cross the autofs mount point and skips the entry, so nothing under /home is changed, and the update succeeds. The installation of any package with a tmpfiles.d file shows the same notice. 1. https://mirrors.edge.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/util-linux/v2.38/v2.38-ReleaseNotes 2. https://mirrors.edge.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/util-linux/v2.39/v2.39-ReleaseNotes 3. https://mirrors.edge.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/util-linux/v2.40/v2.40-ReleaseNotes 4. https://mirrors.edge.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/util-linux/v2.41/v2.41-ReleaseNotes 5. https://mirrors.edge.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/util-linux/v2.42/v2.42-ReleaseNotes 6. https://mirrors.edge.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/util-linux/v2.42/v2.42.4-ReleaseNotes [1]: https://mirrors.edge.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/util-linux/v2.38/v2.38-ReleaseNotes Assisted-by: claude-opus-5.5 (Claude Code) --- util-linux.be0 | 4 ++-- 1 file changed, 2 insertions(+), 2 deletions(-) diff --git a/util-linux.be0 b/util-linux.be0 index 5c27bbd3e..867ad484c 100755 --- a/util-linux.be0 +++ b/util-linux.be0 @@ -1,9 +1,9 @@ #!/usr/bin/env beesh -# BEE_VERSION util-linux-2.37.3-0 +# BEE_VERSION util-linux-2.42.4-0 # SRCURL[0]="https://mirrors.edge.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/util-linux/v${PKGVERSION[2]}/util-linux-${PKGVERSION}.tar.xz" -SRCURL[0]="https://beehive.molgen.mpg.de/36fe209806ede050ce124e4a2e6e66d4/util-linux-2.37.3.tar.xz" +SRCURL[0]="https://beehive.molgen.mpg.de/0d25a2070c56b1f9f0b5a0ac6b29135a/util-linux-2.42.4.tar.xz" # PATCHURL+=() From cbad40ca125e63031014ea1184d89171e0928f39 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Paul Menzel Date: Wed, 14 Oct 2026 19:16:26 +0200 Subject: [PATCH 2/2] util-linux: Do not build uuidd MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Since version 2.42.4, util-linux ships a tmpfiles.d(5) and a sysusers.d(5) file for uuidd. MarIuX has no systemd-sysusers, so the user uuidd never exists, and every run of `systemd-tmpfiles --create`, at boot and in bee’s post-install hook, prints: $ sudo bee update util-linux-2.42.4-0 installing /src/mariux/beeroot/packages/util-linux-2.42.4-0.x86_64.bee.tar.bz2 .. /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/uuidd-tmpfiles.conf:5: Failed to resolve user 'uuidd': Unknown user /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/uuidd-tmpfiles.conf:6: Failed to resolve user 'uuidd': Unknown user The daemon has never worked on MarIuX: uuidd.socket and uuidd.service are disabled, and the units of 2.37.3 already ran it as the non-existent user uuidd. libuuid only asks uuidd for time-based UUIDs, and without it falls back to generating them itself, so `uuidgen -t` still works. Configure with `--disable-uuidd`. This removes `/usr/sbin/uuidd`, its systemd units, its bash completion, its manual page and the two files above, and nothing else. libuuid is still built.
