Moving images (GIF, Video)

It seems like there is no way of displaying moving pictures in Wagtail (uploading video and playing them with a HTML5 player, or even a animated GIF).

Is there a way to have this capability without having to rely on external sources like Youtube or Vimeo?

I found this plugin which aims for "feature parity with images but for html5 videos" https://pypi.org/project/wagtail-videos/

Hmmm....

• PyPi says version 2.1.0 from https://github.com/flytrap/wagtailvideos.
• version 2.1.0 is not compatible to Django 3, it uses an obsolete function (`cannot import name 'python_2_unicode_compatible' from 'django.utils.encoding')
• On https://github.com/flytrap/wagtailvideos, there are no releases just some tags, but no 2.1.0
• https://github.com/flytrap/wagtailvideos is a fork of https://github.com/neon-jungle/wagtailvideos
• https://github.com/flytrap/wagtailvideos made just one ugly commit (changing name from wagtailvideos to wagtail-videos and maybe some wagtail compat changes. And it is 49 commits behind https://github.com/neon-jungle/wagtailvideos
• https://github.com/neon-jungle/wagtailvideos seems to have Django 3 fixes ( https://github.com/neon-jungle/wagtailvideos/pull/40 )
• Latest release is 2.0.0, latest tag 2.8.2, but two fixes on top of it on master.
• So I'll try master from https://github.com/neon-jungle/wagtailvideos

Unfortunately, uploading a large(ish) file of 142 MB fails at 12% of the upload. Smaller files of 4-15 MB work flawlessly. This only occurs on the live server.

Hmmm. That is strange. Its the same video as you uploaded to https://intranet2.molgen.mpg.de., isn't it? https://intranet.molgen.mpg.de and https://intranet.molgen.mpg.de/ are more or less the same. I'll have a look.

Okay. intranet2 had apache httpd 2.4.46 and intranet had apache httpd 2.4.39. As this was one of the very few differences, I've upgrade apache on the main server to 2.4.46, too, and now it works. This is really surprising, because 2.4.39 is already rather old on the 2.4 branch and shouldn't have to many bugs left.
