Welcome to the Loosolab!

Our bioinformatics lab is located at the Max Planck Institute for Heart and Lung Research in Germany. We are organized as a combined facility with the local IT infrastructure group. We apply latest bioinformatics methods to scientific projects at our institute and within our research network.


Our research is focused on the development and application of computational methods to assess heart and lung development, regeneration, and disease progression. We bring together expertise from multiple fields to maintain an efficient computational infrastructure, to develop advanced bioinformatic workflows and make use of public resources such as the de.NBI cloud. Most of our projects include high throughput omics components that aim to monitor many levels of molecular organization in cellular systems (genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics and proteomics). Mario Looso is a honorary professor at the faculty for Life Science Engineering at the University of Applied Science Mittelhessen. He gives lectures in bioinformatics for bachelor and master students, provides practical courses for groups of students and conducts training courses for young scientists up to postdoctoral levels.
