Jan Detleffsen

I am a PhD student in Bioinformatics at the Max Planck Institute for Heart and Lung Research (MPI-HLR) with a strong interest in genetics, epigenetics and data science. I received my B.Sc. in Biology and M.Sc. in Bioinformatics and Systems Biology from the Justus Liebig University of Giessen, Germany, and did both my B.Sc. and M.Sc. theses at the MPI-HLR.

For my bachelor’s thesis, I used CRISPR-Cas9 and CRISPR-Cas13 technologies to generate METTL3 and METTL14 knockout and knockdown 3T3 cells in order to alter RNA m⁶A abundance. My Master’s thesis focused on single-cell ATAC-seq quality control, which laid the foundation for my current PhD research. My work now focuses on developing computational tools for epigenetics and analysing next-generation sequencing data.
