The requirements said: Windows 10 or better. So I got a Macintosh.

Welcome

Welcome to this site. You will find some random notes about using/configuring/managing Macintosh computers. Formerly the pages here made up the internal information pages of the Theory Group, intended to provide basic information about how to perform common computing-related tasks at the Max Planck Institute for the Chemical Physics of Solids. You will find hints on our hard- and software which should be self-contained enough to get started in using them, but not more. What you will not find here is an excessive repetition of the online and printed manuals available in the form of UNIX manpages, PDF, HTML and printed documentation.

Mac OS X/OS X/macOS is a certified UNIX operating system. For an introduction to UNIX, please refer to the books available in our library. If you nevertheless have the impression that something important is missing in this document, please be so kind and contact me.

If you think you need support and don’t have a Macintosh: Contact our IT service. For questions, comments and suggestions, please send me an e-mail. If you are looking for more general information about the institute, please have a look at the internal webpages of the institute.

welcome

The contents of this and its subsequent pages is intended to be used only within the institute. Apart from the fact that the information provided here is largely useless otherwise, please keep this in mind.

Computer technology is changing rapidly, however I don’t update the pages here as frequently as it would possibly be necessary. Therefore, if you find possibly outdated content I’d be glad if you could inform me.
