You might already have an account from the IT service of the Institute. This account is being used exclusively for some institute’s resources like the Time Machine backup server smb://nassrv.cpfs.mpg.de or the central file server smb://flsrv.cpfs.mpg.de. The IT service also distributes a sheet with short instructions referring to Windows office PCs – forget about these, they don’t apply. This account is independent of the Theory Cluster, which uses its own user database.
Indeed we don’t run the cluster by ourselves but rather cooperate with the neighboring MPI PKS. Please contact me for an account on the cluster, if you have not already done so.
